Golden State Region: Serving California Vintage Plymouth Car Owners

Chevrolet people are nice too.

July 17, 2010
by Tod Fitch,

Bob Semichy had been threatening to organize a “Compare All Three” event for quite some time now. In preparation, he is in the process of infiltrating the other clubs. His first target: The local vintage Chevrolet club. He has picked up some ideas for tours and for increasing the participation in our club’s tours and, through this same connection, had recently learned of a event organized by the Chevrolet club for Cedar Creek Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care Community center where they wanted a number of cars for the residents, the residents’ families and the staff to see.

Old carsThe Chevrolet marque spanned the most years from a late 1920s touring through a 1985 Camaro. But with the exception of the Camero and a 1960s Corvair all the cars were pre-WW2. There were two Fords, both Model Ts but the second most represented marque, thanks to Bob’s telephone calls was Plymouth. Jim Gray’s 1930 was the oldest Plymouth with Bob VonKonsky’s 1941 convertible the newest.

Turn out from the early 1930s was pretty impressive with, I think, six cars between 1930 and 1934. I am kind of cheating on that because the 1935 Chevrolet Standard used the same body and styling as a 1934 Master DeLuxe so it looked like a 34 to me. The most impressive of these vehicles was a 1934 V12 Packard. (I end up having to answer the question “what year Model T is your car?”, he apparently has to answer questions like “what year Rolls Royce is that?” He did not want to trade pink slips but I guess that is okay because it would not fit in my garage.)

It seemed that the residents enjoyed the cars and it gave them and their families something to share and discuss. Many thanks to the Chevrolet club for allowing us to help, to Bob for organizing the Plymouth contingent. Photographs can be seen at http://www.ply33.com/Misc/club2010/20100717
