Interested in Touring to the Portland Meet?September 21, 2009by Tod Fitch,
With that in mind, here is a proposed itenerary. Keep in mind this is very tenative and we are very open to alternative suggestions. 12 June - Group from Southern/Central California tour up to San Francisco Bay Area. Route to be determined. 13 June - Combined Southern/Central/Bay Area group tour up US 101 to Eureka, California. This is approximately a 300 mile drive, so there won't be much time for sightseeing but I would suggest a stop at the Chandelier Drive-Thru Tree in Legget. 14 June - Tour from Eureka to Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. This day would be about 260 miles so there should be some time to do some sightseeing. Crater Lake Lodge built in 1915 and renovated in 1995, while not inexpensive, looks like a nice place to revist the 1920s rustic charm of the old National Park lodges. Note, there are a number of references indicating some park entrances are open from "late June" so we might be too early in the season for this to be a viable stop. 15 June - Tour from Crater Lake to the national meet venue in Portland. This should be about 273 mile drive to the meet hotel in Clackamas. 16-20 June - The national meet. See the Cascade Pacific Region's website at cascadepacificplymouth.org/300p2p2010.html for details. 20 June - Caravan back toward California. Ashland, Oregon is about 285 miles south of Clackamas along I-5 and could be a reasonable overnight stop. 21 June - Continue caravan south. From Ashland to the San Francisco East Bay area is about 320 miles. The Southern/Central California may wish to split off and continue down I-5. 22 June - For the Southern California group it will be another 440 or so miles from the Sacramento area to the "Inland Empire" area. If you are interested in touring up to the meet with us, please let me know. If you have route or sightseeing suggestions, they are very welcome. | |||||||||||
