Golden State Region: Serving California Vintage Plymouth Car Owners

Northern California Event Update

July 3, 2007
by Tod Fitch,

With our focus on the very successful national meet in Santa Maria this spring we have been slow to schedule Bay Area events for the summer. I would like to take this time to bring your attention to the following events that were recently added to our schedule:

July 22, 2007 (Sunday) • Train ride tour • Felton •As a substitute for previous years "Quest for Cool Air" summer tours we will be visiting the Roaring Camp and Big Trees Railroad in Felton. Felton is not all that far from Santa Cruz and the ocean, so it should not be too hot. Especially since the narrow gauge railroad runs through very shady redwood groves.
Meet at 8:30 for a 9:00 AM departure from the Rancho Shopping Center on Foothill Expressway in Los Altos. We will take the long way (via La Honda) to the coast then back through the hills to Felton. We will have lunch at Roaring Camp, ride the train through the redwoods then take a shorter way home.
Bring a picnic lunch or buy lunch at Roaring Camp. For more information about Roaring Camp and the railroads there see http://www.roaringcamp.com/.

August 25-26, 2007 (Saturday-Sunday) • Winery Tour • Napa Valley • Preliminary date pending confirmation of interest and check of available rooms.
Plan is for a Saturday tour up from the peninsula via Golden Gate Bridge to the North Bay then across to the Calistoga area. Sunday tour down via east bay.
Please let me know at (408) 749-9233 if you are interested and if you have any specific wineries or sites you would like the tour to stop at.

September 9, 2007 (Sunday) • Antique Cars in History Park • San Jose History Park • The Golden State Region of the Plymouth Owners Club has been invited to participate in the 2007 “Antique Cars in History Park” event coordinated by the Santa Clara Valley Model T Ford Club.
Entrance and activities are free to club participants. Vehicles need to be as they could have existed in 1945 or earlier. For more information contact Allan Greenberg at (408) 997-0879.
In past years information about the event has been posted on the SCVMTFC's web site at http://www.scvmtfc.org/index.html.

October 14, 2007 (Sunday) • Caravan to Jimmy’s Picnic • San Francisco • Join us for a day in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. See the write up below about Jimmy’s Picnic. We will start our caravan in the South Bay (probably in the Cupertino or Los Altos area), drive up I-280 to Skyline. Follow Skyline to Great Highway and enter Golden Gate Park from the west. More details as the date gets closer.

We have had a suggestion for a tour to the Chico Concours. It is usually held in mid to late September on Chico’s College campus. The concours could be done one day and if an overnight tour, Bidwell Mansion or Stansbury House or whatever the club would like to do could be done the other. Or if not interested in the concours, tour of the homes, Bidwell Park, or other local attractions. Usually weather by mid September is pretty decent and most often is okay to sometime in early November. Given the distance this would likely require an overnight stay. There has also been a suggestion for a overnight trip to the Jamestown/Sonora/Columbia/Twain Hart area. Please let me know if your are interested in tours to these areas.

So mark up your calendars and fire up those old Plymouths! See you on these tours. Please call me if you have any questions or suggestions for additional events.

(edited to correct preliminary dates for wine tour)
